Windows

Old, drafty windows make rooms uncomfortable, let in condensation and frost, and drive up heating bills through a long Wisconsin winter. Homegrown Exteriors, LLC installs energy-efficient replacement windows for homes across St. Croix, Polk and Barron Counties.

Window replacement services

  • Replacement windows — double-hung, casement, sliding, awning, picture and specialty shapes.
  • Insert (pocket) replacement — a new window installed inside your existing frame when the frame is still in good shape. Less disruption to interior trim and siding.
  • Full-frame replacement — the whole window and frame come out, so we can inspect and repair the opening, add flashing and insulation, and fix rot.
  • Exterior trim and capping — low-maintenance trim so you’re not scraping and painting around the windows.
  • Energy-efficient glass — double- or triple-pane glass, Low-E coatings and gas fills, chosen for a northern climate.

Signs your windows need replacing

  • Drafts you can feel near closed windows
  • Fog or condensation between the panes
  • Frost or ice on the inside of the glass in winter
  • Windows that stick, won’t stay open, or won’t lock
  • Soft or rotted wood on sills and frames
  • Single-pane glass or old aluminum frames

Choosing windows for a Wisconsin home

Western Wisconsin is in ENERGY STAR’s Northern climate zone, where keeping heat in matters most. When we help you choose windows, we look at the insulating value of the glass and frame, how well the window seals against air leaks, and how it will look on your home. We’ll explain the trade-offs in plain terms so you only pay for upgrades that make sense.

Just as important is the installation. Even a great window will leak air and water if the opening isn’t flashed, insulated and sealed correctly, so that’s where we take our time.

How window replacement works

  1. Free in-home consultation. We look at each window, talk about what’s bothering you, and discuss styles and options.
  2. Precise measuring. Replacement windows are made to order, so accurate measurements are critical.
  3. Written estimate and ordering. Once you approve, we order your windows. Custom windows usually have a manufacturing lead time, and we’ll tell you what to expect.
  4. Installation. We work one opening at a time to keep your home closed up, protect floors and furniture, and seal and insulate every window.
  5. Cleanup and walkthrough. We clean up, check that every window opens, closes and locks properly, and walk through them with you.

Window FAQs

How much do replacement windows cost?

Price depends on the number of windows, their size and style, the glass package, and whether you need insert or full-frame replacement. We give you a free, itemized estimate.

Insert or full-frame replacement — which do I need?

If your existing frames are square, solid and free of rot, an insert replacement is often a good fit and costs less. If there’s rot, water damage or you want to change the size or style, full-frame replacement is the better choice. We’ll check and recommend honestly.

Can windows be replaced in the winter?

Yes. We replace one window at a time, so each opening is only exposed for a short period, and we keep the rest of your home closed up.

How long does it take?

Installation of a typical set of windows often takes one to a few days. Because windows are made to order, there’s usually a wait between ordering and install day. We’ll give you both timelines up front.

Will new windows lower my energy bills?

Replacing drafty, single-pane or failed windows usually makes rooms more comfortable and reduces heat loss. Savings vary by home, so we won’t promise a specific number, but we’ll explain what to expect.
